Glassfiber Produkter carries a wide range of different types of gratings. Among all the gratings we have, it can be a challenge to find the right type which suits your needs. Which grate you should choose depends on what, where and how it will be used. This article gives you an insight in what you should consider.

Molded and pultruded gratings

Molded gratings have loading capacity in both directions which makes them strong and versatile, and they are suitable for most applications. No matter how the gratings are used, the strength will be distributed equally over the grate.

Pultruded gratings are used in situations where there are large free spans or other factors which require a higher degree of strength. In contrast to molded gratings, profile-based gratings have loeading capacity in only one direction. The profiles provide exceptional strength in one direction, which is very beneficial for certain applications.

Gratings and sizes

The molded gratings have a standard dimension of 3658 x 1219 mm, and the pultruded ones have a typical size of 6000 x 1000 mm. The grates can be cut to size and combined exactly according to what the application area requires.

Mesh and opening

The open area in the mesh of the gratings should be chosen based on the area of use. Our molded gratings have light openings from 11 x 11 mm to 42 x 42 mm. Openings of 38 x 38 mm are standard, unless other specific requirements are made. If there is, for example, a ball size requirement, the gratings must have smaller openings in the mesh. Smaller openings ensure that objects cannot fall through.

Solid gratings with full-covering surfaces are also available. Some gratings are produced with chequer pattern which provides a good foothold.

Anti-slip surfaces

If slippery surfaces are a problem, you can use fiberglass gratings as a solution. Many of our gratings come with surfaces that reduce the risk of slipping. Gratings equipped with sand provide excellent anti-slip protection. Gratings without sand have concave surfaces which also provide an anti-slip effect and are easier to clean.

Thickness and load

Our gratings are available in thicknesses from 12 mm to 51 mm. Which thickness to choose should be based on the load it must withstand and how large the potential free span is.

On each product site you will find load tables which show you the loads the gratings are suitable for. We will help you find the right thickness and type of grating.

Gratings for stairs

Trappetrinnsrister are whole plates that can be cut up into steps of the desired size. The gratings are produced with a reinforced edge on each side, and can be cut at the center to make better use of the material. This creates stair treads on each side.

The stair treads have stair nosings on each side.
